MSWF TV Show

This page will look at some of the other "top ten" lists I have compiled. Remember that this is just my opinions. I do not wish to force my opinions on anyone. This is meant to spark memories and conversations about days gone by. I hope no one takes this page too seriously.
WELL IT'S THAT TIME. I HAVE FINISHED THE "2001 P.A. AWARDS" AND HAVE POSTED THEM FOR ALL OF THE WRESTLING WORLD TO SEE. LIKE ALL OF THE PREVIOUS YEARS I HAVE THOUGHT LONG AND HARD ABOUT EACH CATAGORY AND BELIEVE I HAVE MADE A RESONABLE CHOICE IN DECIDING THE WINNERS. A WHOLE YEARS WORTH OF MATCHES, ANGLES, AND STORYLINES ARE NOT ONLY HARD TO REMEMBER BUT WITH ALL THE GREAT TIMES, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO PICK THE BEST OF THE BEST.

THESE ARE JUST MY STUDIOUS OPINIONS BUT THEY ARE BASED ON A JOURNALIST POINT OF VIEW. I KNOW I'LL CATCH HELL FROM SOME OF THE GUYS IN THE LOCKER ROOM FOR THIS, BUT IT'S ALL PART OF THE FUN.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: BRIAN STORM
RUNNERS UP: RAY BOB, BRENT LIGHTNING

MOVE OF THE YEAR: SPIKE ROGERS' SPIKE HIGH
RUNNERS UP: BILLY JACK'S ONE ARM CHOKESLAM
RIOT'S "FREAK ON A LEASH" AS I CALL IT. A MODIFIED VERISON OF THE ACID DROP.

110% AWARD: JT FUNK (FOR ALMOST NEVER MISSING A SHOW AND WILLING TO WORK ANYBODY ANYTIME)
RUNNER UP: JIMMY STUD

MOST ATHLETIC: RIOT
RUNNERS UP: MALAKI, HELLRAISER

BEST PART-TIME MSWF WRESTLER: HELLRAISER
RUNNERS UP: FLYIN' HILLBILLY, JOHN NOBLE

BEST CURTIN-PULLER MATCH: FLYIN' HILLBILLY (DEBUTING) VS BRIAN STORM

BEST MIKE WORKER: REBEL
RUNNER UP: PAUL MICHAELS

CATCH-PHRASE OF THE YEAR: "SOMEBODY CALL THE LAW"
DUSTIN DOUGLAS
RUNNER UP: "HUMABIGUN" DUSTIN DOUGLAS

FUNNIEST INSULT: "HEY SLIM SHADY, PLEASE STAND UP"
PAUL MICHAELS ON THE HOUSE MIKE TO KID GRUNGE, AFTER KNOCKING GRUNGE TO THE MAT WHEN GRUNGE SNEAK ATTACKED MICHAELS.

BIGGEST ANGLE LET-DOWN: THE INTRODUCTION OF PAUL MICHAELS HALF-SISTER "MORGANA." THE ANGLES THIS COULD HAVE LEAD TO WERE NUMEROUS AND INTERESTING. BUT HER AGE KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING, AS SOME THOUGHT SHE MAY HAVE BEEN TOO YOUNG TO GET IN THE RING.
(JUST IN CASE THERE IS ANY MISUNDERSTANDING, I'M NOT SAYING IT WAS "MORGANA"'S FAULT. ONE SHOW SHE WAS ATTACKED BY SPIKE AND DUSTIN AND G MONEY. ACTUALLY I WAS ATTACKED TOO, BUT ANYWAY, SHE WAS ATTACKED BY THOSE GUYS AND THEN NEXT WEEK NOTHING WAS SAID OR DONE ABOUT IT. THE BEATING OF "MORGANA" SHOULD HAVE LEAD TO SEVERE PAY-BACKS BY THE MICHAELS FAMILY ON SPIKE AND THE GANG. SO IT'S NOT MEANT AS ANYTHING BAD AGAINST THAT YOUNG LADY.)

MOST MISSED: COOLER
RUNNER UP: BRET "MADDOG" DAWSON

FAN FAVORITE AWARD: RIOT
RUNNERS UP: PAUL MICHAELS, JD BIGGS, BRODY HANSEN

MOST HATED: REBEL
RUNNERS UP: KID GRUNGE, SPIKE ROGERS, G MONEY

MOST OVERKILLED GIMMICK: THE LIGHTS GOING OUT.

BEST RING ATTIRE: THE DARKSIDE (RIOT, MALACKI, XTREN)
RUNNERS UP: SPIKE ROGERS, RAY BOB, THE HANSENS

BEST DCW MOVE: COMBINING WITH THE MSWF

END OF AN ERA AWARD: YOUNG'S RIVERSIDE CLUB (HOME OF THE GREATEST MATCHES, BIRTHPLACE OF MANY CURRENT MSWF STARS, AND THE ARENA THAT SAW THE LIKES OF JAKE ROBERTS, ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER AND BILL DUNDEE PERFORM.)

BEST MSWF MOVE: THE TELEVISION SHOW (ALTHOUGH IT WAS SHORT LIVED AND NOT VERY WELL PLANNED, IT WAS THE BRIGHT SPOT OF THE YEAR FOR THE FEDERATION)

THE "WE SAW IT COMING" AWARD: MSWF HAS LAST SHOW AT D & S

STORYLINE OF THE YEAR: THE DCW INVASION (NOT ONLY DID IT HAVE THE FANS EXCITED, IT HELPED BRING TOGETHER THE OWNERS OF BOTH ORGANIZATIONS. BUT ONCE THE WWF/WCW THING STARTED IT HAD TO BE DROPPED. THE NIGHT DCW INVADED IS ALSO THE BIGGEST AND MOST IMPORTANT SHOW OF THE YEAR)

WORST STORYLINE OF THE YEAR: DUSTIN IN A TRANCE

FEUD OF THE YEAR: PAUL MICHAELS VS SPIKE ROGERS
RUNNERS UP: RIOT VS MALACKI, HANSENS VS THUGS

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR: THE HANSEN BROTHERS
RUNNERS UP: THE DARKSIDE, THE HILLBILLIES, SPIKE AND DUSTIN, THE THUGS, SOUTHERN JUSTICE

AND FINALLY THE WRESTLER OF THE YEAR AWARD....

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: "SUPER SEXY" PAUL MICHAELS
RUNNERS UP: SPIKE ROGERS, BRODY HANSEN, HELLRAISER, KID GRUNGE, RIOT, MALACKI, DUSTIN DOUGLAS, THE REBEL, JT FUNK, JD BIGGS

THIS HAS BEEN A PRESENTATION OF PA PRODUCTIONS...
(EVEN THOUGH I REALLY DIDN'T PRODUCE ANYTHING BUT IT SOUNDS IMPORTANT)

MY TOP FIVE PERSONAL FAVORITE MOMENTS IN DCW
--------------------------------------------
1. Being Special Ref for Dante Cruz VS. Antonio Cruz in their classic "Loser Leave DCW" match (Summer 1999).
Personal notes: For the few months leading into this match these two had been feuding and this match was to be the deciding match. The final match for one of these men in DCW. As Commissioner for DCW, I had several run-in's with Dante. He just didn't "respect my authority." I gave James Marcum the match off. After both men where in the ring, I said on the mike "And now your special guest referee" and the fans popped(to my surprise). Lenny Kravitz's "Mama Said" blurred over the speakers as Big Bully and myself came to the ring with fans cheering (again, to my surprise). The match started and with the rules being lax, because I wanted to see a winner, they used tables and ladders on each other. Eazy E was seated at ringside with Bully and "Maddog" Bret Dawson watching over him, making sure he didn't interfere. Finally 15 mins into the match, Antonio gets nailed with a move and is out. Dante, feeling like he had the match in hand, turns his attention to me. He backs me into the corner as I'm telling him that he can't touch the ref. He reaches up and takes off my glasses and to the shock of everyone (in the audience and in the back) he throws them against the wall and they break into a thousand pieces. He then proceeds to body slam me and drop an elbow. That's the last thing I remember, but after seeing the tape, I was pulled out of the ring by Bully. Eazy E breaks away from Maddog and the next thing I know, James Marcum has came in and counted the 3 Count on Antonio. Dante wins the world title and Antonio must leave.

2. PA VS James Marcum (Nov 1999)
Personal Notes: Like my feud with Dante, the bad blood between James and myself kept increasing until we both had had enough and challenged each other to a match. At this point Team Obscene was just beginning to grow. I had asked the boys to stay in the back even though I knew that the special ref, Big Bully Carmichael, couldn't be trusted. Alix Draven was the ring announcer that night. The ending came when, after becoming cocky and self-assured I walked over to Bully and shoved him, because of his one-sided refing. I turned to the fans, got down on one knee and flexed. Bully puts his hand on my shoulder, pulls me up, spins me around, and delivers the stiffest body slam I've ever had. Marcum then drops an elbow and Bully gladly counts the three. The boys then come in and save me from more thrashing. After thought: Marcum later challenged William Fredricks (The Fraternity Manager) to a match in which Fredricks defeated him.

3. Team Obscene Forms (Nov 1999)
Personal Notes: James Marcum and Bully start the show by having an argument who was supposed to be the new commissioner after I had quit. They are on the mike when somebody, wearing a pull-over jacket with the hood over his face, appears and hits James from behind. As I laid the boots to the ref, I could hear people in the audience asking who it was. Grunge and Spike were standing behind me. I pulled the hood down and it took the fans by surprise when they saw it was me. I took the mike and introduced Grung and Spike and myself as "Team Obscene." That night will surely live in infamy.

4. Making Fun Of The Generation Of Devestation.
(Dec 1999)
Personal Notes: When I arrived at the arena that night, Paul Michaels said "We're gonna dress up like the Generation tonight. It's gonna be awesome, son." With Grunge dressed like Lee Luger, Spike, with a bald cap, dressed like Dravin, Dustin as Brody Hansen, Paul as "Big Poppa Rump", and PA as Eazy E, we brought down the house by imitating the Generation. The funniest things were "Poppa Rump" getting stuck under the bottom rope with his big butt and after I spotted fellow Rock 105 DJ Ollie Hall in the audience, proceeded to start yelling "Ollie Hall...Ollie Hall" like a deranged Earl Owens. Of course they came out and attacked us afterwards but it was worth it!!!!

5. The Night "The Screamer" Was Unveiled As Antonio Cruz (Halloween 1999).
Personal Notes: "The Screamer" had been tormenting Dante Cruz the past several weeks. The week before he had got in at ringside and tried to make me confess to being "The Screamer" and I said that he was being paranoid and it wasn't me. The fans thought I was lieing, but then the lights went out and "The Screamer" came and attacked us both. No, I never dressed up like the dude from Scream. The next week, "The Screamer" attacks the Generation in the ring after the lights had done out. When the lights came back on Antonio unmasked and proceeded to attack Maddog, Rebel, and Grunge. I came to help the guys to the back, when I noticed a gleam in Antonio's eyes. Dante slids into the ring and I am then beaten down by the Cruz cousins. How can being beat down be one of my favorite moments?? The guys in the back understand.

The History Of Diehard Championship Wrestling

DieHard Championship Wrestling was founded in 1997 by Douglas Smith, Robert and Candi Smith. The home offices were built in London, KY. Douglas "Papa Smurf" Smith is the current owner/operator with Robert as head booker and Candi taking care of fan relations, among other things behind the scenes. The home of DCW was found in Manchester at Young's Riverside Club, which also serves as the Official House of the DCW Training School. The first ever World Champion was Alix Draven. The organization quickly earned a fan-base by touring throughout Southeastern KY towns such as London, Mckee, Barbourville, Hazard, Buckhorn, Harlan, among others. Other the years, many faces have come and gone. James Marcum outlasted all other referees to become head official for a long run in DCW before moving on to other organizations. The early ring announcing duties were done by Earl Owens and Ramblin' Ray Henson. After Owens decides to concentrate on his managerial services, Ray got former WTBK DJ Bret "Hitman" Fox to help out. One night Mr Fox couldn't make it and called upon co-worker Prince Albert to help out Ray for that night. Soon after Ray retires from the company and Mr Fox and PA do the announcing for a short stint until Mr Fox leaves the Manchester area to work for another radio station. This began the long and enduring stretch of PA as DCW Ring Announcer. Many wrestlers have come and gone. Some of the biggest "name" wrestlers to work for DCW are Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Buddy Landell, Dirty White Boy, The Mongolion Stomper, BuckHouse Buck, Wolfie D, and Bill Dundee. DCW ran for years at Young's Riverside Club every Saturday Nite.

This list contains the wrestlers and the music which made them stars. I took into account, the song itself, how well it fit the wrestler's gimmick, the fan heat that comes from the time the song starts until it is cut, how it helped get the wrestler over, and uniqueness of the song or band. Example: You're not going to get props from me if you use "Bad To The Bone" or something by AC/DC because every other wrestler in the world has used those songs when coming to the ring. At one point in early 1999, 85% of DCW's locker room were using AC/DC songs. That's a little overkill, don't ya thing? The only exception to the AC/DC rule is "Maddog" Bret Dawson.

1. TEAM OBSCENE ("Take The Power Back" by Rage Against the Machine) (Unique song, suits gimmick, intro helps builds the anticipation of their arrival)

2. DANTE CRUZ ("California Love" by 2pac/DR Dre)(No other wrestler had a theme that fit his gimmick so well. This cocky Hollywood Insider's theme always rocked the arena)

3. "MADDOG" BRET DAWSON ("Given The Dog A Bone" by AC/DC) (Fans pop when it hits, fits gimmick perfectly)

4. THE NEW DARKSIDE ("Voodoo" by Godsmack) (Eerie music for an eerie gimmick. I can just picture them stalking to the ring with Sinclair and most recently, Big Bully, whenever I hear this song)

5. KID GRUNGE ("Come Out And Play" by The Offspring) (great tune, nails his grungy gimmick to a tee)

6. ANTONIO CRUZ ("Bawitdaba" by Kid Rock) (A high energy song for a high energy competitor. He used KR while everybody else used AC/DC.)

7. HANSEN BROTHERS ("Train, Train" by BlackFoot)
(Classic Rock song that you don't hear on the radio, fits the roughness of the Hansen's like no other song can. Fans go crazy for this theme)

8. JAMIE "TOO COOL" STONE ("The Lumberjack" by Jackyl) (At the height of his DCW popularity, all the fans had to hear was the opening chainsaw buzzing and they started cheering like crazy.)

9. THE MATADOR ("Walking On The Sun" by Smash Mouth) (The "Matador Airplane Strut" entrance to ringside just wouldn't look the same without this tune playing in the background. The first two notes is all it takes to pop the crowd. They know who is getting ready to come out.)

10. REBEL ("Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynard) (Although he has changed his theme, this remains to be his signature song. I've never heard the fans pop more for any other theme.)

11. WICKED LESTER ("Halloween Theme") (The music hits, the lights go out. Can you say terrifying?)

12. NU-AGE ROCKERS ("We Will Rock You" by Queen) (Two words: Clap and Stomp. The fans got into the stomp, stomp, clap mood when this theme hit)

13. KDS LITTLE SEXY ("RPM" by Sugar Ray) (Good theme to use, but KDS gets points taken away because Antonio Cruz had previously used it for a short time)

14. THE FRATERNITY (by Megadeth) (This theme was easily recognized by the fans. They would start booing as soon as it hit. Seconds later, William Fredricks with Christopher "Mastermind" Xavier and Clarence "Up All Night" Cooledge would emerge through the curtains)

15. LITTLE JIMMY STUD ("Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin) (Has used several different songs, but I think this was his most over theme. The tempo of the tune matched his slow stalking walk around ringside)
